At Cashmere Genetics we have invested a lifetime of breeding and research to create our unique strain of cashmere goats. These robust, super fine, high fibre weight cashmeres are available now and will provide the best foundations for new breeders.  We have developed unique tools to track and evaluate the best families and future sires. Get in touch so you can tap into our experience and we will work with you on how to integrate these unique animals into your farming businesses.

Our flock continues to make significant progress in fleece production and robust structurally sound animals.  This spring we tagged around 800 kids from 20 sires.  We endeavour to maintain and evaluate a range of families and bloodlines.  We have interesting sons coming through that will go into our stud team and to clients for this seasons matings.

Using our bucks will track our genetic progress which will be quickly incorporated into your flock’s genetics.  The main two commercial fibre traits are micron (um) and Total Down Weight (TDW).  We have been able to track a doubling in down production and around 2 microns finer fibre through the years.

Superbly covered doe hoggets in August before shearing

We now have many superbly covered does. The exceptional ones are today producing more the 0.5 kg of down at fine cashmere microns.  The top group of does (2021 shearing) averaged 392g TDW at 16.68 micron average. On a full flock set of fibre test results, the finest 25% averaged 190g TDW at 14.05um.

We are waiting on the first set of test results from the 2022 shearing to come back. These will be used to finalise the pick of 16 months old bucks for addition to our stud team.   The next cut, the top 20% of selections goes to cashmere breeders. Those selections will happen in mid to late February.  We are happy to work with intending buyers who we welcome to pick their bucks in person or work with us to select on their behalf.  Transport is reliable,  with good experience sending stock into most regions around New Zealand.
