The Fibre

Cashmere is one the world’s premium textile fibres. Cashmere goats shed their cashmere in spring, however this is a valuable fibre that should be harvested to get maximum returns from your stock (EDIT). With minor adjustments to existing sheep shearing facilities, goats can be shorn standing up.

Dependent on genetics, cashmere goats will produce between 200 - 400gms of cashmere each year. Foundation goats will also produce a small amount of cashmere that can be shorn.

New Zealand Cashmere is set up to help farmers get to shear their goats, from on-farm advice to classing.
