Duncan Steans. North Island Manager
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, Duncan Steans, as the North Island manager for New Zealand Cashmere.
Originally a South Islander raised on Banks Peninsula upon completion of study at Lincoln University I moved north, initially to Auckland as a junior reporter for The New Zealand farmer, then within a couple of years relocated south to the more rural region of Waikato.
I moved on from journalism into various sales and support roles for the last 20 years – across a variety of rural / agricultural companies including fertiliser, stock water, farm development, crop & agronomy, animal health and identification. Despite settling in Waikato my passion is decidedly more in the sheep and beef sector.
The opportunity with NZ Cashmere, although a significant challenge, was too intriguing to pass up. I love getting on farm and working with progressive farmers to assist with change and diversification, this role with NZ Cashmere provided that, in a exciting start up industry and company.
I look forward to catching up with the North Island client base over the next couple of months to get to know and support your business, as well as following up opportunities to grow the Cashmere sector to save cost on farm, provide diversification and as an alternative to blanket forestry.
